Different methods to make a division's ranking

The official ranking method is explained in detail in point C.7. of the VTTL sports regulations. TabT-Web, however, proposes certain "alternative" methods:

The Pingouin method

This method was proposed by the club Pingouin Leuven in the general assembly of the provincial committee Braband Flamand & Brussels on Mai 19th 2006.

The team ranking is based on the quotient between the total number of the team's individual victories and it's number of played matches.

The result is multiplied by 100 to make it more readable.

The method offers an official solution for equal teams.

Example: In division 3B gentlemen of the provincial interclub Brabant flamand & Bruxelles of 2005-2006, the B-team of Pingouin has played 22 team matches (11 victories, 1 draw). The players have both won 176 and lost 176 individual matches.
Consequently, the quotient Pingouin is 100*176/(176+176) = 50.0.

This method offers the advantage that teams must win a maximum of victories in all their team matches. Winning a team match with a "little" 9-7 victory might not be enough to keep the teams ranking place. Club responsables cannot make a team with three strong players and select the fourth in another team. Each week the four strongest players must be selected in each the team.

Negative aspects:
The ranking is more difficult to read.
When one of the two teams forfaits the match, the other team gets 16 individual matches, which favours teh last. In that case, mainly in the bottom half of the ranking, these victories can give an important advantage to the winning team.

The 4 points system

For the moment this method isn't used by any provincial committee and it hasn't been officially proposed. However, it seems to give excellent results and combines the advantages of the official method and the "Pingouin" method in an interesting way.

The team ranking is based on a number of points which can be obtained after each team match, as following:

Example : Team A wins the match with 11 to 5 victories and consequently wins 3 points. Team B obtains 1 point.

Interesting remark: in case of a player "W-O" in both teams, the points total is not always equal to 4. Example: 8-7, team A wins 2 points and team B, 1 point.

The method offers an official solution for equal teams.

Method Individual Victories

This system is used by the youth commission of the Antwerp province for the province's 'Youth' series since the season 2006-2007.
The team ranking is based on the number of individuel victories.
This system encourages the youngest players who generally are the weakest. It prevents a team ending the season with 0 points.

The method offers an official solution for equal teams.
